Hey everyone, Dayu here, from EcommOps.
You’ve probably already heard about this already - Holidays shopping in 2021 will a huge mess full of delays, with articles saying that “Santa might be late this year”, and that you should be shopping even starting in October.
In this video we’re going to talk about:
- Why this is happening
- Why I don’t think it’s going to get any better
- And why this is actually a positive thing if you are fulfilling from China
Traditionally most big retailers use sea freight to bulk ship their products, whether it is to physical stores or the local fulfillment centers for local shipping. We are going to dive into how it is like this year after COVID and what is worsened in this video.
Check out this previous video we made on more details of the reasons behind these delays:

Now there’s been a lot of news recently about how president Biden is pushing for ways to ease the port backlog, which includes a push for 24/7 port operations.
While it might ease things a bit, it will be far from solving the problem, simply because it does not fully consider the complexity of the entire supply chain.
Well, seems like there is no good news in sight for local holiday sales. Now for the good news for our viewers, most of whom might be dropshipping or fulfilling from china.
Consumers are increasingly starting to purchase Xmas gifts early, with many recommending buying even BEFORE Black Friday to avoid everything getting sold out.
We see it in our client stores as well - sales have started to increase earlier than most Q4s. Which of course effectively means a longer than usual Christmas sales season.
But really the best part is - if you’re fulfilling from china anyway, you pretty much completely bypass the sea freight issue.
I also do want to remind everyone that Christmas is something special, and Christmas gifts are so important to everyone. I hate to see the freight issues impacting Christmas, so part of the reason why I am happy is that China direct fulfillment does give brands a solution to get products under customers’ Xmas trees, on time.
But I will emphasize, you HAVE to do it right. You HAVE to plan your supply chain RIGHT NOW, pre-stock if needed, and pick the best shipping lines.
Make sure to check out the Q4 supply chain modules in our free course linked below to help you navigate it correctly.
If you’re looking to scale this Q4, and want to work with EcommOps to make it happen, reach out to us NOW because at some point we WILL stop taking in clients scaling for Q4.
