Mayor Erica A. Stewart was elected to the SLO City Council in November 2018 before taking on the role of vice mayor and then later mayor in October 2021 — making history as the first African American elected to council or as mayor in the city’s history. Professionally, she is the Assistant Director of Personnel & Marketing for Campus Health & Wellbeing at Cal Poly.
In line with her passion of helping people improve their lives, the mayor has served as a County Commissioner, President of HRCC, steering committee member for the City of SLO’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce and as President of the Cal Poly Alumni Association board.
