WooCommerce University Welcome: WordPress Preview

Hey everybody, Paul Hickey here with Data Driven Design. I'm very very happy that you have chosen to join us at https://WooCommerceUniversity.com.

I'll also be referring to it as WooU as we get you ready to build your own eCommerce store using Wordpress and WooCommerce.

It's a platform that I've used for at least about 10 or 11 years now.

And believe it's the best. I've used several other eCommerce platforms for many many years and WooCommerce is far and away the best and I'm excited to show you how to build your own store and basically use WooCommerce and all of its extensions to manipulate Wordpress to do whatever you want it to do to grow your business online.

So the first thing we're gonna get started on is actually the basic selection of a managed WordPress host. Now Data Driven Design provides these services we do so through WPEngine and we actually are not paid by WPEngine to say that or anything we've just selected it as the best managed WordPress host out there.

It's got the best speed, the best security, the best scalability; it is the most expensive, but we like it the best in terms of managed WordPress solutions.

Now it's important to pick a managed Wordpress solution so that you actually don't need a developer, and you don't need any technical knowledge at all because you're not managing your server.

Now if you pick a solution that's not managed, you will have to have some technical expertise. These are sometimes called cPanel servers; linux servers; php servers.

You're going to have to have some knowledge related to linux php if you don't pick managed.
We're going to help you actually install WordPress which the managed host does for you so that's easy; but I'm going to show you how to do that.

Then after installing WordPress, we're going to help you select a theme. Now we have a theme that we use that we highly recommend so we're going to be using that theme as the example.

And then after selecting your theme we're going to show you how to install your theme and get you to the back end of your WordPress admin dashboard.

From there we're going to show you a few different important things:
1. We're going to talk about how and why to choose the correct WordPress settings.

2. We're going to go through our plugin pack. Now the plugin pack is just going to walk you through five or six basic plugins that we use on all of our WordPress websites before we even install WooCommerce.

3. Then we're going to actually show you how to take your staging domain name that we set up when we set up your WordPress hosting and we're going to show you how to launch it to your live domain name right away because that's something that you're going to have to do most likely after you're done building your site.

But you could do it before you even start building your site if this is a new site built from scratch. So we're going to kind of get all of that stuff out of the way in our basic WordPress hosting choice installing WordPress theme settings plugin settings and domain related overview.
