What it really takes to be a #successful #entrepreneur .

Be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be crazy enough to think you can change the world. I saw a Tweet yesterday that said that. And I just want to politely say no, that's not true. There are all kinds of successful entrepreneurs out there busting their asses every day, not changing the world.

For example, the CPA you drive past every day on your way to work will do your taxes because she likes numbers and being left alone. Your mechanics started their business because they're good with cars and people happen to instinctively trust them. And that hair salon you're thinking of trying out was started by a couple who had too many clients to keep cutting hair in their kitchen, now they're booked out til August.

None of these imaginary, but perfectly realistic entrepreneurs are trying to change the world. They're just trying to make a living, and it's working. So they're successful. Because here's what you really need to be a successful entrepreneur. You need to offer a service or product that you can sell for a reasonable amount more than it costs you to do or make.

If you bring in enough more than you spend to have the lifestyle you want and to continue growing your business, you're a successful entrepreneur. Does that sound cool and sexy? No. Will it get inspo-quoted on Twitter? No. But is it actually kind of inspiring? I mean, yeah, a little. More power to you if you're out there changing the world. We're glad you exist. But some of us just want to sell puzzles.
