Alibaba is a Chinese multinational conglomerate holding company that specializes in ecommerce, retail, Internet and technology. The company was founded by Jack Ma and his team of 17 friends and students in his Hangzhou apartment in April 4, 1969.
Jack Ma’s goal was to improve the global e-commerce system and help small and medium businesses to help export Chinese products to the global market.

He began his journey by creating Taobao in 2003 as a C2C online shopping platform to help small businesses and individual entrepreneurs to open online stores. Ma continued with Tmall.com to complement the Taobao portal and focus more on the Business-to-Consumer model.
In 2010, they expanded internationally through Aliexpress.com which allows small Chinese businesses to offer products to international online buyers.

Jack Ma accomplished his goal of connecting local and international consumers to local businesses in China. He continued to expand Alibaba through the creation of Alipay, an online and mobile payment platform, and Alimama, an online advertising service in China.
