Retired Captain David Greer joins me to talk about the History of Steamboats and the development of industry in America. We hear a bit about turn-of-the-century steamboating, and the part played by our domestic caste system in the formation of waterborne commerce. He shares with us an oral history of the steamboat, the introduction of the railroad, efforts made to simplify transit and make possible a sustainable global economy, and, of course, the maritime industry that followed in its wake.
