A young entrepreneur has become the go-to barber for his fellow local teens after teaching himself how to cut hair by watching YouTube videos.

Ellis Craggs, 14, began cutting hair 10 months ago after practicing on one of his best friends.

Quickly the word got out about Ellis' cheap and stylish haircuts and he began getting requests from other teens.

Ellis's haircuts have become so popular that he is now booked up every weekend with appointments from teenagers in his local area.

The young hustler works out of the shed in the family back garden and charges between £5 and £10 a haircut.

So far, Ellis has made a few hundred pounds and plan to save the profit to pay his parents back for their support.

Ellis, a school student in Watford, Hertfordshire, said: "I’ve always been very creative and I’ve always loved the thought of making money and making people's day.

"So cutting hair felt like a good way into that."

Ellis started the side hustle 10 months ago when he was on a rugby tour with friends and offered to cut their hair for free.

Ellis said: "I started by buying some bad Temu trimmers for £10, using only one guard.

"I was on a rugby tour and I just asked my close friends if they would let me give them a haircut.

"Some said yes and some said no.

"My first haircut was on my really close mate called Tayler, who has let me cut his hair for ages.

"I’ve actually been the only one cutting his hair for the last 10 months."

Ellis continued to fine tune his techniques and when he began getting more requests, he started charging his customers.

Ellis said: "I started charging people for haircuts about six months ago.

"I’ve probably made a few hundred from barbering but you also have to think about all the equipment I've bought.

"My first set of clippers, as well as different guards, capes, the mirror, and combs or bushes, cost me a total £75, so my profits are more like just over £200."

Ellis's parents are proud of their son's achievement and gifted him more equipment for his last birthday.

Ellis' father Stephen Craggs, 51, a surveyor, said: "Ellis has always been a bundle of energy, even when he was little.

"I didn't know what to expect when he first started cutting hair but I'm proud at where he has gotten to.

"We like to keep his customers to people we know to make sure we're not having complete strangers come round.

"Even so, he usually has four clients each weekend day.

"It's really impressive.

Besides being the go-to barber for his fellow local teens, Ellis also runs other side hustles.

Ellis said: "I do a paper round to make some extra cash on top of barbering.

"I went through a phase of reselling clothes on Vinted in lockdown which I enjoyed."

With the profits, Ellis plans to pay back his parents for their support.

He said:" When I'm older and I get more money, I want to pay a lot of it back to my parents as they've helped me so much.

"Barbering might be the route I go down, but for now it’s kind of a side hustle."
