Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday two government programs to help Ukrainians fleeing war to come to Canada.
Those who want to come temporarily will be able to apply for a Canada-Ukraine authorization for an emergency travel visa.
“This will eliminate many of the normal visa requirements and it will be the fastest and safest way to come to Canada,” Trudeau said.
Ukrainians with Canadian family members will be able to apply to a special family reunification sponsorship pathway towards permanent residence.,
Trudeau said he called Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and assured him of Canada's support as Defence Minister Anita Anand announced more military aid to the country.
He also said Canada is joining a call with other allies to suspend Russia from INTERPOL amid its invasion of Ukraine.
In Thursday’s press conference, Trudeau announced the launch of the “Canada digital adoption program,” which is a $4 billion investment to help businesses expand digitally.
Small businesses can get grants of $2,400 to build an e-commerce platform, while others needing more advanced programs can get different grants and loans.
