ISLAMABAD:
The government is all set to lay the foundation of Pakistan’s first e-commerce university, said the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on E-Commerce Aon Abbas Buppi.
“The first e-commerce university will enhance the capabilities of e-commerce stakeholders not only in Pakistan but also in the emerging global e-commerce segment,” said Buppi at ‘National E-Commerce Symposium’ in Islamabad.
He hoped that the establishment of the e-commerce university would provide fresh employment opportunities to the youth so that Pakistan could become a part of the global supply chain which would enhance its economic strength.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has high hopes from the youth because most of the e-commerce businesses are run by this segment,” he said adding that the government would provide the younger generation with all the facilities.
According to him, it would also uplift country’s exports, he said.
He shared that the government would also establish first e-commerce web portal of Pakistan in a bid to curb illegal trade.
He informed the participants the e-commerce portal would be created with the help of Chinese giant Alibaba and transparency would be brought in the sector.
“Government plans to increase e-commerce trade volume to $9 billion by June 2023,” he said.
Citing that Pakistan’s e-commerce trade figures were conflicting, he stated that with the current value of around $4.5 billion, the country could easily reach $9 billion by 2023.
He promised to take care of all the issues faced by e-commerce traders including those which pertaining to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and tax agencies.
