How UPI disrupted payment apps, ONDC will disrupt e-commerce marketplaces! But how will that work?

???????? ONDC or Open Network for Digital Commerce is an endeavor of the government to bring all vendors listed on different marketplaces such as Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Paytm Mall, Myntra, Nykaa, etc... all on one portal

???????? The attempt is to bring sellers, buyers and logistics providers on one open source platform so that when you search for something like, say, a watch... it will give you all options listed across all e-commerce websites all at one place to compare vendors, reviews, prices, delivery charges, etc

???????? This means that the customer will not have to create separate accounts on each marketplace, but a single login will work across platforms

???????? The entry point for a customer for ONDC will be through a payments app such as Paytm or Google Pay

???????? As of now, ONDC roll out has already started in 5 cities - NCR, Bhopal, Bangalore, Shillong, Coimbatore; and about 80 firms including marketplaces, logistics providers, etc are undergoing integration

???????? The objective is to curb the monopolistic dominance of platforms such as Amazon / Flipkart and it is expected to digitize the entire e-commerce value chain, standardize operations, and increase bargaining power of the end consumer
