Guidelines to help e-commerce companies reduce packaging by up to 90% were released during the Sustainability and the Environment Ministry's Committee of Supply debate. The guidelines are tailored to the local waste context, giving specific suggestions on how to reduce, re-use and recycle e-commerce packaging in Singapore. The Singapore Manufacturing Federation, which is co-lead for the guidelines, plans to organise workshops to further help businesses take up the recommendations. According to industry estimates, 186,000 parcels were delivered in Singapore every day in 2023 — generating 15,900 tonnes of packaging. Eugene Chow reports.
