After failing to secure a job in almost 30 firms, Ma was appointed as a teacher of English.
In 1995 during his trip to US, Ma got familiarized with internet and was amazed by its potential. He frequently visited US to learn more about it and thought of starting a business venture focused solely on internet. His first firm was focused on creating websites for his clients.Although the concept was quite new, the website soon gained fame and Jack managed to earn an amount of $800000 in just three years. His first two ventures failed, four years later he gathered 17 of his friends in his apartment and convinced them to invest in his vision for an online market place. He launched a website named Alibaba, an online market place which allows exporters to post products so that the customers can buy them directly. In about three year the website gained fame and the business got a huge boost. Ma also visited Silicon Valley for funding of Alibaba but was rejected for running a non profitable enterprise.
Though Jack Ma has himself not coded a single word in his life but his business strategy and his ability to use internet in his favour was the reason behind the success of Alibaba. After receiving a funding in 2000, Alibaba expanded to 240 different nations.
After the success of Alibaba, Jack also venture into different e-business and founded many firms such as Taobao, Lynx and Ali mama. Taobao started trending over internet and soon became a fierce competitor to e-bay. Taobao also helped Yahoo to set up its foot in China which it was unable to do because of e-bay.
The success of Alibaba helped Jack Ma to become the richest person in China. All throughout Jack Ma’s life, from childhood until becoming a multi-billion dollar e-commerce technology giant, Ma has been rejected many times and been called crazy but that what kept him going.
“He learnt from failures he faced in his life and that what made him the successful entrepreneur he is today.”
