Established in the year 1926, the Chamber is a not for profit organization with its mandate to disseminate knowledge in the field of Taxation, Corporate & Allied Laws, and Accounting & Finance. The Chamber caters to the needs of professionals both in practice as well as in Industry. It has a robust membership of 3500 professionals, comprising of Advocates, Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries and Tax Consultants.

The Chamber operates through various committees, each catering to a specific area. The committees organise programmes on various topics such as Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes, International Taxation and Allied Laws, etc.

Knowledge sharing and dissemination is carried out through various conferences, seminars, Study Circles & Groups, Residential Refresher Courses (RRCs) and publications. The Chamber also publishes a monthly Journal titled The Chamber's Journal. The journal is well appreciated by the readers and it finds place in libraries across India.

Residential Refresher Courses (RRC): The Chamber organizes three RRCs every year, one on Direct Taxes, one on International Taxation and one on Service Tax. These courses provide participants an opportunity to deliberate and discuss thread bare controversial issues which are then elucidated upon and resolved by eminent experts of respective fields.

Study Group: It is one of the flagship activities and latest judgments and controversial issues of Direct Taxes and International Taxation are analyzed by seniors and experts.

Study Circles: The Chamber runs Study Circle on Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes, International Taxation and Allied Laws.

Carefully structured conferences/workshops/study courses: After very thoughtful process, various programs are structured with sole objective of 'imparting knowledge'. The background material at these programs is painstakingly prepared and is well researched and detailed.

Libraries at Income Tax Offices-Mumbai: CTC manages two libraries at prominent places like Aayakar Bhavan and Pratyakshakar Bhavan which are widely used by the professionals. These libraries have more than 4000 titles and all leading law journals and magazines.

Bond of fellowship and brotherhood: Above all the members of the CTC enjoy a unique bond of fellowship and brotherhood which is evident in all its activities and programmes.

Representations: The Chamber is also active in making representations to Ministry of Finance and Tax Department. In recent years, the CTC has acted as a catalyst and has contributed substantially to the development of better tax laws, administration and compliances.
