Indonesia has banned e-commerce transactions on social media platforms as the government moves to protect brick-and-mortar businesses. The new law prohibits direct transactions on major platforms like Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, but users will still be able to promote their products online. Indonesia was the first market for TikTok Shop. Data shows Indonesians spent more money on the app than any other country in Southeast Asia over the past year.
