Personal branding is a powerful concept, but it's about so much more than just social media posts or having a flashy logo. In fact, I didn’t even have a website until I made my first 10k month—I didn’t feel like I truly had a business until I reached that milestone. It became my standard for what success looked like. Before that, I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of service I wanted to sell, nor was I sure about my niche. I wasn’t clear on whether my focus should be on the e-commerce space or more localized businesses. So, for the first while, I didn’t even bother with a website. ????

Branding is so much deeper than simply picking out colors and designing a website. It goes beyond the visuals and aesthetics. Your personal brand is essentially the essence of who you are—your voice, your attitude, your personality, and the energy you bring to the table. It’s about how you connect with people and share your story in a way that resonates with your audience. A successful brand is built on authenticity and clarity, and these elements go far beyond just looks. When people think of your brand, they should be able to feel your values and what you stand for.

Your target audience is a key component of your brand’s identity. Understanding who you are serving and why is crucial to building a strong personal brand. It’s important to know what problems you’re solving for them, how you’re making their lives better, and why your services are the right fit for them. Your brand is a reflection of your mission and vision, and if these elements aren’t clear from the get-go, it becomes a lot harder to establish a meaningful connection with your audience. ????

As you build your personal brand, you’re also defining your business brand. Your personal brand and your business brand can intertwine, especially if you are the face of your business. But in my opinion, personal branding should always be distinct from your business brand. Why? Because while your business can be sold, your personal brand is something unique to you that can’t be bought or sold. As a founder, especially if you’re looking to scale your business or create multiple ventures, your personal brand is a critical asset. It’s what sets you apart in the marketplace, and it becomes a foundation upon which your business can grow. ????

A business brand can be sold, shifted, or pivoted. But your personal brand? That’s yours for life. It’s the part of your identity that you carry with you, no matter what business you’re in or what direction you decide to take in the future. By building a strong personal brand, you’re creating something that will stand the test of time, regardless of what happens with your businesses.

Ultimately, personal branding is about telling your story in a way that feels real, authentic, and valuable to others. It’s about defining who you are, what you stand for, and why people should care. It’s about creating trust and building relationships, both with your audience and your partners. A solid personal brand creates opportunities—whether it’s growing your business, attracting new partnerships, or launching new ventures.

If you’re a founder or someone looking to grow a business, your personal brand is just as important as the business brand you build. In fact, I would argue that it’s crucial to have both: a strong personal brand that supports your business brand, but is also able to stand on its own and evolve as you grow. By doing so, you build a foundation that’s not only successful but sustainable. ????
