1. PM Narendra Modi to address Smart India Hackathon today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Smart India Hackathon of All India Council for Technical Education today. He will also interact with students.
The Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives.
Over ten thousand students will be competing to solve 243 problem statements from 37 Central Government departments, 17 State Governments and 20 industries during the online.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister will also speak on the new National Education Policy 2020.
2. International commercial flights to remain suspended till August 31
The International commercial passenger flights will remain suspended till August 31, 2020. This was announced by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The restriction will however not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA.
The announcement comes as the fifth phase of Vande Bharat Mission is scheduled to begin from August 1st to repatriate stranded Indians from 23 countries.
Under phase 5 of the mission, a total of 792 flights have been scheduled, which includes 692 international flights and 100 domestic flights.

3. Eight core industries output shrinks 15% in June
The output of eight core industries shrank by 15 per cent in June this year contracting for the fourth consecutive – month due to fall in the production of coal, crude oil, natural gas, steel, cement and electricity.
According to the data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the output of coal sector fell 15.5 per cent, crude oil declined by 6 per cent , natural gas by 12 per cent, refinery products fell by 8.9 per cent, steel sector plunged by 33.8 per cent, cement by 6.9 per cent and electricity declined by 11 per cent.
During April-June in the current fiscal, the sector’s output dipped by 24.6 per cent as compared to a positive growth of 3.4 per cent in the same period in the previous year.

These eight industries account for 40.27 percent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
