How do you figure out when to hire a 3PL to ship for you?
First, figure out your gross profit (sale price - COGs) and see how much you're making with each sale.
For example: If you sell a product for $20 and it costs $4 to make, you're left with $16 in gross profit. If shipping costs $5, you're down to $11.
A 3PL will charge you at least $2.50 per package and an additional $0.25 per item they pick.
That's roughly $3 in 3PL fees alone, leaving you with only $8 in gross profit.
That means you have $8 left over to run the business, pay yourself, buy inventory, market, make content, hire, pay for legal and everything else.
Get clear on your gross profit, dial in your unit economics, and understand how much you're really making.
If it makes sense and your business can support it, you can use a 3PL.
just don’t make the mistake I made by hiring a 3PL too early.
If you want help through this process I can guide you.
