The domestic postage rate hike will impact corporates more, as they account for 80% of local mail. From next week, the postage rate for standard regular mail will go up from 31 cents to 51 cents. Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Tan Kiat How said demand for general mail has declined as more e-commerce firms are providing their own delivery services. According to SingPost, local mail volumes declined by more than 40% over the last three years. Mr Tan said the increase will help the postal service fulfil its role, even as its business model is being reviewed.
