Chinese exporters seek non-English foreign language talents over growing live-streaming demand

As more Chinese vendors extend their overseas reach with e-commerce platforms and social media, live-streaming anchors who can speak their customers’ languages are amongst the most sought-after new hires in China’s job market.

One live-streamer majoring in Spanish said about a quarter of her classmates are working in the overseas e-commerce industry.

An accessory company owner in the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu says they’re in dire need of language talent to explore markets in non-English speaking countries.

According to China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba, in the first week of March, more than 60,000 foreign trade companies in China launched a live-streaming service, doubling the number from the same period last year.
