I noticed something really unique in a few Ubers in Mumbai this week…
They have a cone hanging from the rear view mirror…
And the entire car smells of camphor.
I first thought one of these drivers must have made a cone of camphor for his own car…
But when I saw it in quite a few… I figured this was purchased as is.
So I looked up the product on Amazon… as camphor cone…
Just one SKU had over 10500 reviews, and a label said over 5000 sold last month.
The price of one pack of two cones is about Rs 300, that means just Rs 15L of sales of this product in one month.
The same company, CamPure, is also listed on quick commerce… selling each cone for about Rs 150.
One of the drivers told me he gets them from DMart where it is cheaper and he got it for Rs 110 each.
Now this product seemingly has barely any competitors, selling across channels, and safe to assume, must be making easily upwards of Rs 50L of monthly sales as a no brainer.
The drivers I spoke to again said that it’s much better than the chemical air purifiers sold by Odonil and Godrej.
Can almost predict the big guys to launch this over the next 6-12 months…
Till then, just look around you. A lot of old Indian household hacks are becoming mainstream commercial products.
