Episode #2 of Opportunity Calls with Ellen Volpe features entrepreneur Andrew Hazen.
Hazen, a self-described "serial entrepreneur", joins Ellen via video conference to discuss his successful career. Starting out as a paper boy, Hazen's entrepreneurial spirit emerged during high school and eventually led to his pursuing a degree in law.
During his time in college, Hazen began purchasing website domain names and experimenting with search engine optimization and marketing. Launching a digital marketing firm in the late 1990s, Hazen was able to successfully sell the firm to a public company.
Hazen's passion for establishing domain names has earned him the nickname "The Domainer" and he continues to search for opportunities to build businesses around category-defining domain names.
Hazen tells Volpe of the lessons learned by growing a successful business and finding success at a young age. Hazen describes the influence of mentors in his career along with the pursuit of future ventures after finding a certain level of financial freedom - but he's never lost sight of the importance of friends and family.
Volpe and Hazen discuss the impact of social media in the marketplace and within families. "It's harder to be a parent, than run a business," Hazen told Volpe.
As an entrepreneur, Hazen has achieved continued success. He built a successful Bobblehead business (www.BobbleheadBoss.com), serving clients from across the globe, manufacturing hundreds of thousands of Bobbleheads each year. Hazen's entrepreneurial vision led him to create a venture using the domain "BagelOfTheMonth.com," powered by BagelBoss. With clever marketing and customers' travel limited due to the pandemic, the business grew over 2000% during 2020.
One of Hazen's most recent and most exciting ventures is LongIsland.com. Hazen was able to purchase the valuable domain several years ago, and tells Volpe about the incredible opportunities to leverage the organic search traffic available thru providing content to a target audience.
When asked about his advice for entrepreneurs, Hazen tells Volpe, ""Don't be afraid to admit that you don't know what you don't know so you can learn."
