7 Surprising Things to Know About the Amazon Business Model
via Medium.com
Most of us are familiar with Amazon and Jeff Bezos, their CEO. Amazon is an e-commerce company in everything they do. They have developed all their expertise in full support of e-commerce. In fact, they now do e-commerce for many other businesses.
Amazon has existed in the e-commerce technology world since its inception. They think like a technology company and agile innovators, only innovative in everything they do, not just technology. They are not afraid to try new things and they can get things done quickly, thanks to the culture their CEO Bezos has instilled.
For years — quite by design — the company focused on growth and expansion over profitability, earning complaints from investors. They are still focused on the future more than the present and that is why they are such good innovators. More recently, it’s done things that left many scratching their heads, such as the whole Amazon Web Services (AWS) effort, and even the Kindle effort — and yet both have proven to be quite successful.
The Antidote To The Amazon Squeeze Of Small Businesses
via Forbes.com
As someone who runs a digital marketing agency, I see first hand what a tough climate it is for retailers. Everyone is constantly talking about how Amazon is killing the competition – big and small. And frankly, it can be intimidating for any business owner when headlines highlight the financial difficulties of previously successful retailers like Forever 21 and Performance Bicycle. If those retailers can't compete, how does a small to medium-sized business compete?
According to Forbes contributor Brock Blake, Amazon facilitated $63.4 billion in sales on everything from telescopes to toothpaste in just the second quarter of 2019. It is no wonder many small business owners view Amazon and corporate chain retailers as the biggest threat to their bottom line.
It’s true, they are pushing many small businesses out of the market but it doesn’t have to be this way. While other small businesses see the additional closing of familiar stores as a sign of what's to come, our agency has identified an opportunity to establish themselves as not just relevant – but preferred.
Amazon: Small Business Friend or Foe?
via Forbes
In Lendio’s American Dream Survey of more than 2,000 small business owners, it was clear that many viewed Amazon as a threat to their bottom line. In fact, two out of three small business owners said they view large corporations, such as Amazon and Google, as having a negative impact on growth opportunities.
Yet even as these large companies grow, two-thirds of small businesses are, as well. How can that be if conglomerates are pulling away business?
