It was back in 2013 when Amazon entered the very nascent and almost untapped e-commerce market characterized by an underdeveloped infrastructure with only 16 percent of the Internet-connected population and the undisputed king of cash.

Flipkart and Snapdeal were arguably the only and largest e-commerce players in the then e-commerce market. As it is always an internet powerhouse in the United States, Amazon was able to adapt quickly to the Indian way of selling goods online and flush with capital, elbowed Snapdeal out to take Flipkart head-on and overcome the challenges.
