Amazon announced new inventory limits for its US warehouses.
As Amazon struggles to keep up with demand, the e-commerce giant expects the circumstances to remain unchanged in the upcoming weeks and is looking to get ahead of the holiday shipping rush. The company said it’s instituting stricter quantity limits for all third-party merchants, in all product categories, with quantities differing on a product-by-product basis. Bradley wrote a blog post about this and will be featured below. The United States Postal Service reported a $4.5 billion loss in the fiscal 2020 second quarter. As an agency that delivers almost half of the world’s mail, experts speculate this can be extremely damaging to e-commerce.
If the services provided by USPS were to halt, as is speculated, experts say it would present significant impacts on the e-commerce landscape, specifically for small businesses and consumers, with some expert sayings it can even lead to a drop in digital entrepreneurship. Marketplace Pulse reports that Amazon has lost some market share since the start of the year, as measured by web traffic, to their online rivals, including Walmart, eBay, and Target. Due to Amazon’s restriction on non-essential items, the e-commerce giant’s traffic was down 47% in June, while competitors like Wayfair and Lowe’s saw increases of up to 50% in April. However, as people went back to stores in June, these top players also saw significant web traffic loss, even more so than Amazon.
