11 Reasons NOT to Grow a Beard - Men's Grooming Tips

If you’ve ever considered growing a beard I’m glad you found this video because I gotta say, over the last 3 months in my attempt of growing a full beard for the first time in my life I have some interesting takeaways on the subject lol.

Growing out a beard is certainly a test of patience and confidence lol. In the beginning I thought to myself “Wtf am I doing? I can't grow a beard. What will everyone think of me… I already get called Jesus enough with my long hair…”

I decided to go against the odds anyway and do it because it’s in my nature to take on a challenge when it presents itself. So off I went on my journey and because I’m a complete rookie at this I found myself asking questions like:
- How long does it take to grow a beard?
- What;’s the best way to grow a beard?
- How to grow a long beard?
- How to grow a full beard?

And the list goes on and on lol. I ended up coming across Greg Berzinsky from Beardbrand on YouTube and he seems to have become my north star for navigating my way through the world of how to grow out a beard properly. Greg makes a stack of cool content online covering topics like how to grow a beard if you can’t and how to grow a thicker beard etc.

But even with good beard growth content from Greg, growing a beard is actually quite a personal experience if you ask me because not every guy can grow a full beard so the experience can vary from guy to guy.

For me personally, by four weeks of growing my beard, I was like “wtf, why can't I grow a beard? Is there something wrong with me? Can I grow a beard at all?”

It was a bit confusing. None the less after 3 months I actually ended up being quite happy with my results and it turns out i can actually grow a decent beard which makes me happy, but coming closer to my point, here’s a few reasons why I wouldn’t grow a beard again.

So, reason number one why having a beard sucks, and you shouldn't grow one, is because of beardruff. Now, what is beardruff?

Well, very much like dandruff in your hair, same thing I found was happening in my beard. I remember one day it was really itchy, and I started scratching it, and next minute, there was an avalanche coming out of my chin.

And, I went, what the f#ck is this? And, yeah, I kind of got enlightened to the fact that the skin around here can develop dandruff as well. The one thing here though, this hair, it seems to be a lot more dense or thick than the hair on the top of my head.

So, any irritation through here was a lot more severe, and the flakes of dandruff were f#cking huge. So, that was one shock surprise about growing a beard, and it wasn't very pleasant. I don't like dandruff in my normal hair at the best of times, so the fact that it was now happening in my beard, sucked.

But, using anti-dandruff shampoos, in here as well, seemed to work really well, and get rid of that beardruff for me. So, that's reason number one. All right, moving onto reason number two.

Reason number two is patchiness is damaging to self-confidence, and I'll tell you why. Now, again, going back to I'd never grown a beard before, so I kind of just worked with a little chin strap and was like, "That's cool".

But, it's not until you actually go, "Yeah, I'm gonna grow a beard, and embrace my full manliness." That you suddenly realise that, SHlT, I'm a male and I'm meant to be able to grow a full one of these, and I'm just not. So, what's wrong with me here? The patchiness was a bit of a scary point, especially by the second check-in. I was like, "Oh my God, "this is gonna look like a patchy mess".
